The Tasmanian Liberals will hold a closed-door meeting in Hobart on Friday where senior party officials will answer questions about the repayment of nearly $48,000 by former state director Damien Mantach.

The gathering aims to calm anger among some rank and file members ahead of the weekend state party conference which Prime Minister Tony Abbott will attend on Saturday.

Despite senior party officials, including now premier Will Hodgman, knowing about Mr Mantach's repayment of $47,981.78 in 2008, some members are unhappy about not being informed.

Tasmanian Labor leader Bryan Green says Friday's meeting shouldn't be closed and is evidence of continued secrecy by the Liberals.
