Labor ticks specialty timber logging

Tasmania's Labor opposition has announced support for the logging of specialty timbers in an area earmarked for world heritage protection, in a move closely aligned with the state government.

After extensive industry consultation the party has adopted a policy which leader Bryan Green said is critical to support a vibrant and successful ongoing timber production sector.

"Through careful management, Labor believes we can supply our specialty cabinet makers, wooden boat builders, wood turners and musical instrument makers with sufficient material," Mr Green said, adding that he does not expect the move to threaten world heritage values.
