Labor beats Libs big spend in Tassie

Grass roots campaigning beat the big-spending Liberal party in Northern Tasmania, Labor's Brian Mitchell says.

Despite a saturation of media advertising in the countdown to the election that Mr Mitchell estimates would have cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, the coalition could not retain the seats of Lyons, Bass and Braddon.

"The Liberals were greedy to retain their seats in Tasmania," Mr Mitchell who won the seat of Lyons, told reporters in Hobart on Sunday.

"Conversations beat big money - a great Labor story."
