Hobart's booming tourism appeal has been realised again with international hotel chain Hyatt choosing a new property in the southern capital to carry their Centric banner.

The $40 million, 221-room hotel in the heart of the city will join a chain of 650 properties across 52 countries in a category which Hyatt promotes as being "a local home base ... at the centre of most unique destinations".

"Hobart will join the likes of New York, Paris and Chicago where the hotel brand promises upscale, cosmopolitan experiences in the heart of prime visitor destinations," Premier Will Hodgman said on Tuesday after Hyatt announced the deal.
