Hobart prison break inmate faces court

A Hobart prison inmate charged with escaping from the jail's kitchen before leading police on a man hunt has appeared briefly in court.

Marcus Denis Mayne, 27, on Tuesday faced Hobart Magistrates Court on charges including escaping custody, theft, burglary and the assault of a 16-year-old boy, which allegedly occurred while he was on the run.

No pleas were entered and Magistrate Michael Hill ordered that Mayne face court again on October 21.
