Boy dead after family trip to get firewood

A weekend trip to gather firewood has resulted in the death of a Hobart boy after a tree fell on his family's car.

A couple and their three children drove to Mt Lloyd, north of the city, on Saturday and were still inside their car when the tree fell, crushing the vehicle.

A seven-year-old boy and his sister, five, were both injured and taken to hospital.

The third child and parents avoided injury.

"Sadly the seven-year-old boy passed away (on Sunday) as a result of his injuries," police said in a statement on Monday.

Police investigations are continuing.
