Heavy rain forecast sparks Tas warnings

A flood warning is in place for parts of northern Tasmania with heavy rain forecast to reach up to 120mm.

The Bureau of Meteorology on Thursday issued a moderate warning for the Mersey River and minor warning for the Meander River, with a "flood watch" active for all northern river basins.

"A cold front and associated low will slowly cross Tasmania during Friday before moving away to the east. This system will bring rain statewide from Thursday evening onwards, with locally heavy falls about the north," the bureau said on its website.
