Destroyed Tas fire station to be rebuilt

The Tasmanian government has promised to rebuild a fire station destroyed in a suspicious blaze.

The Middleton station was set alight sometime before 7pm on Saturday, causing its destruction along with two trucks. The damage is estimated at $600,000.

Three members of the public tried to douse the fire and had to be treated for smoke inhalation, police say.

The state government on Sunday said it would fund the rebuilding of the station.

"I am pleased to be able to confirm that the fire station will be rebuilt and all destroyed and damaged appliances replaced," Member for Franklin Nic Street said.
