A mechanic killed by a decommissioned device nicknamed "the crusher" had been warned about safety issues at the north Tasmanian site, a coroner has found.

Richard Carl Barker, 43, was crushed to death while cutting bolts from a plate on the machine at Bell Bay in April 2013 despite being told earlier that day he should not continue with the work, Coroner Andrew McKee said in his findings, which were published on Friday.

Mr McKee said Mr Barker's employer, BIS Industries, had appropriate safety procedures in place and "there is no evidence to explain why Mr Barker acted in the manner he did".
