The Tasmanian children's advocate has lodged a complaint about the controversial slogans featured on the Wicked Campers rental fleet with the state's anti-discrimination commissioner.

Commissioner for Children Mark Morrissey on Friday lodged a complaint with the Equal Opportunity Commission Tasmania about the controversial slogans, which have previously prompted criticisms across Australia and New Zealand.

"These slogans are very poor role modelling and I believe damaging for children and young people," Mr Morrissey said in a statement.

He says some of the slogans on Wicked Campers' vans are insulting to women and girls and promote gender inequality.

"I believe these slogans are discriminatory and unacceptable within a socially progressive society," Mr Morrissey said.

He also thinks Wicked Campers' depiction of popular children's cartoon characters engaging in drug use particularly offensive.

"I wonder what the Walt Disney Corporation would think of their artwork being used in such a way?" Mr Morrissey said.

On Wednesday, NSW Premier Mike Baird rejected calls to ban offensive slogans on campervans, including the Wicked Campers fleet, from parts of northern NSW.

"I don't think it's something the state government should be getting involved in," he told reporters.

Meanwhile, New Zealand's chief censor on Thursday banned three of Wicked Campers' offensive slogans.

In its decision, the chief censor's office said it had banned designs that used well-known characters from children's storybooks and television programs to present drug use in a subversive manner.

In 2014, community outrage at one particular slogan led to the federal Senate unanimously passing a motion calling for it to be removed.
