Christmas Day fire ban in Hobart

Christmas Day campfires and hot-rock barbecues have been banned in Hobart after a total fire ban was declared for southeast Tasmania.
Hot, windy conditions predicted for Tasmania on Friday have firefighters concerned enough to ban open fires across the state's south and central highlands.
Hobart is on track to record its second hottest Christmas Day, with the 33C prediction just short of the record of 34.6C, set in 1945.

Tasmanians can still cook Christmas lunch on gas and electric barbecues though, provided the equipment is a metre clear of flammable material.
