Low-flying helicopters fitted with infra-red scanning equipment will be used to make sure there are no remaining hot spots in central Tasmania where a bushfire has been burning for over six weeks.

Flights will be conducted over parts of the 3650-hectare fire ground at Osterley on Tuesday night and the Tasmania Fire Service is warning residents not to be alarmed.

"These flights will use infra-red scans to identify any hot spots that are still present so that they can be extinguished," the TFS said in a statement.
