Charges over Tas mum, child petrol attack

A man has been charged over a Tasmanian home invasion during which a mum and her two-year-old son were doused in petrol and threatened with being burned alive.

Luke Jacob Brazendale, 26 of Devonport, appeared in an out-of-session court hearing on Friday night charged with aggravated armed robbery and assault, police said in a statement on Saturday.

He was remanded in custody to reappear on Monday.

The attack happened on January 9, when two men wearing balaclavas kicked down the front door of the Launceston house wanting retribution against another man, police allege.

When they couldn't find him they threatened to set the 23-year-old woman and her child alight.

The woman was taken to hospital and her child escaped unharmed.

Two of the woman's friends, at the house at the time, were also uninjured.

But a "significant amount" of cash was stolen, police said.

Police are still looking for a second man over the attack and a faded red Toyota Carolla seen parked nearby at the time of the robbery.
