Boy hit by motorbike has head injuries

A five-year-old boy has suffered head injuries after being hit by a motorbike in northwest Tasmania.

The youngster was crossing King Street at Smithton about 3pm (AEDT) on Friday when he was struck by the bike.

He was rushed to a local hospital and will be transferred to Hobart.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash but say speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors.
