Man charged over Launceston death

A man has been charged with murder over the death of another man in a Launceston unit.

A 35-year-old Prospect man has been charged over the death of Peter John Fitzgerald at a Summerhill property in the early hours of Thursday.

Police are still forensically examining three crime scenes after the 56-year-old's death.

Detective Inspector Darren Hopkins said Mr Fitzgerald suffered "significant injuries" to his head and upper body.

He said four people were at the home when an alleged altercation took place.

Ambulance officers arrived at the Kerry Court unit at 1.30am to find Mr Fitzgerald dead at the scene.

The alleged murderer will appear before the Launceston Magistrates' Court at 11am on Friday.
