Bikie busted on new Tas evasion laws

A bikie who allegedly evaded police in northern Tasmania is one of the first motorists penalised under the state's tough new laws cracking down on those who run from the law.

Police tried to intercept the man - wearing a Bandidos vest - who was riding a Harley Davidson at East Devonport on Thursday but he took off and was arrested later and his bike impounded.

New laws introduced on Wednesday mean the bike was seized for six months compared to 28 days under the previous legislation.
