Bail refused for alleged wife killer in Tasmania

A man charged with murdering his wife, while the couple hiked through remote bushland in northern Tasmania, has been refused bail.

Robin Michael, 63, from Adelaide, faced Devonport Magistrate's Court late on Friday charged with the murder of his wife Kerry Michael, 19 years his junior.

Bail was refused and Michael is due to face court again on Tuesday.

A search and rescue helicopter on Thursday found Ms Michael's body on a walking track close to the summit of Mt Rowland.

Inspector Kim Steven said the couple had been on a caravanning trip around Tasmania.

"We know they went for a day walk on Wednesday morning and that the woman was killed that day," he told reporters.
