Asbestos fears close Launceston youth club

A Launceston PCYC building shut down amid asbestos concerns has passed air quality tests but remains closed.

Dust found on internal rafters last Friday was suspected to have contained particles from when an asbestos roof was removed from the building in 1976, prompting the building's immediate closure.

"The club will remain closed for an indefinite period of time, until a clearance certificate is obtained by an accredited contractor," police said in a statement on Wednesday.
