Arts event to produce education ideas

Education policy will meet the arts in Hobart with a headline MONA festival event gathering specialists, academics and members of the public to debate how the state can achieve better schooling outcomes.

As part of its annual winter Dark Mofo event, the Museum of Old and New Art will construct The Hothouse on Hobart's waterfront, with organisers on Wednesday announcing that a gathering of creative and strategic thinkers will be set a task to explore new approaches to improve education in Tasmania.

The island state has recorded some of the nation's worst literacy and numeracy rates and starting on June 1, The Hothouse participants will be given 72 hours to formulate 12 ideas which could help turn the situation around.
