Alleged Tas shooter to re-appear in court

A Tasmanian man will front court again over the shooting of an 11-year-old girl in the face, following an argument outside a supermarket.

Phoenix Newitt remains in a Melbourne hospital after being shot while sitting in a car with her mother and other family members outside a house at Deloraine, near Launceston.

Nathan Richard Campbell, 25, briefly appeared in Launceston Magistrates Court on Friday afternoon on charges of causing grievous bodily harm and recklessly discharging a firearm.

The case was adjourned until September 7, with Campbell's lawyer saying it couldn't proceed because Phoenix's condition was "not yet properly determined".

The schoolgirl is believed to be in a stable condition after being flown to The Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne for emergency surgery to remove shrapnel from her head and neck.

Campbell, wearing a loose grey jumper, called out "love you" to several family members in court as he was taken away by police.
