'Disrespectful' Tasmanian premier Will Hodgman ejected from parliament

Tasmanian premier Will Hodgman has been ejected from parliament for ignoring the Speaker during question time.

The Liberal leader was today sent from the chamber for 90 minutes after Liberal Speaker Elise Archer's repeated calls for order amid bickering.

Mr Hodgman had repeatedly exchanged barbs with Shadow Attorney-General Lara Giddings, the ABC reports. 

"Right, the Honourable Premier is ejected until 12 noon today," Ms Archer said. 

"I'm not having that disrespect."

Ms Archer defended the decision in a statement. 

"No Member of the House of Assembly is immune from the Standing Orders, and I will always rule on matters as I see and hear it," she said.

The ABC reports Mr Hodgman's ejection is the first of a sitting Tasmanian premier in at least two decades.
