Tariff cuts under Japan trade deal

Tariffs on Australian beef imported by Japan have been cut again under the recently sealed free trade agreement.

The $2 billion per year of exports will now attract between 27.5 per cent and 30.5 per cent tariffs, while oranges, nickel, mustard and, for the first time, Australian southern bluefin tuna also received tariff cuts on Friday.

Under the free trade agreement, Australian beef will eventually attract between 19.5 per cent and 23.5 per cent, while competitors are charged 38.5 per cent.
