Koala joeys come out to play at Taronga Zoo

Spring has sprung at Taronga Zoo, with two baby koala joeys seen moving out and about with their mothers.

Until now eight-month-old joey Baxter and seven-month-old TJ had been keeping well hidden inside their mothers’ pouches.

Before this week rangers at the zoo had had only a few tantalising glimpses of the joeys.

"We've been seeing arms and legs and even a little pair of eyes peeking out in recent weeks," Laura Jones, a Taronga Zoo koala keeper, said.

Now the joeys are happily riding around on their mothers’ backs, although making sure to keep a tight grip.

Baxter and TJ will eventually joined by a female joey named Kirra, born just a few months back in June.
