Sydney woman charged with neglect after malnourished children found home alone

A woman has been charged with child neglect after two severely malnourished children were found home alone in Sydney.

Police were called to a home on Joyce Street, Fairfield, in Sydney's west, yesterday.

Officers found two boys, aged five and seven, severely malnourished, neglected, and home alone.

NSW Ambulance paramedics took the children to The Children's Hospital at Westmead for immediate treatment.

A crime scene was established, and a 23-year-old woman was arrested.

She was taken to Fairfield Police Station where she was charged with abandon/expose a child under seven cause danger serious injury, and two counts of not provide for child cause danger of serious injury.

She was refused bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court today.

The children are now under the care of the Department and Communities of Justice.
