Sydney's Town Hall station was evacuated just after rush hour amid reports of a fire alarm being activated.

Trains were not stopping at the station, but are now back to normal.

One passenger posted a video of an empty station on Twitter, while another said: "Our guard said it's being evacuated. I could hear an emergency siren as we went through- we didn't stop because of it."

A Transport for NSW Spokesman, said: "The cause of the alarm has been identified as a technical fault with an escalator bearing.

"The escalator has been taken out of service and is undergoing repair."

Meanwhile, there are delays on the North Shore Line due to urgent repairs at Milson's Point.
