A man accused of performing a series of indecent acts in front of women on Sydney trains is behind bars following a public appeal from police.

Footage of the alleged serial public masturbator wearing a party shirt was released this week following four reported incidents between November and June.

In the most recent incident, it's alleged the man boarded a train at Wynyard and sat next to a woman before performing a sexual act on himself.

The woman asked him to stop and move away from her, before the woman fled to the guard's compartment and later contacted police.

The 29-year-old man was arrested at a home in North Manly yesterday and charged with three counts of indecency and wilful and obscene exposure.

He was refused bail to appear at Manly Local Court later today.
