Trains bosses said delays and cancellations which hit Sydney trains earlier are still impacting services.

There were no trains running on the city circle earlier due to a signal problem at Central Station.

And while services are back up, bosses said 'flow on delays' may be experienced.

Commuters blasted the company over the delays - with some saying they had to wait 50 minutes to get on delayed services which were already packed.

Others posted images of packed platforms, while at one stage, Wynyard was reportedly closed,

As well as affecting commuters, tourists and locals heading to Vivid at Chatswood and around Circular Quay were also caught up in the chaos.

Earlier, Trains Info tweeted: "Urgent signal equipment repairs at Central have caused some delays across multiple lines this afternoon.

"Trains are moving now, but flow on delays can be expected. For more information and frequent updates, please follow your line."
