Trains heading into Sydney's CBD from the northern suburbs were temporarily halted as commuters faced travel chaos this morning.

Urgent repairs at Wynyard station prompted a warning from Sydney Trains to allow extra travel time for travellers on the North Shore and Western lines.

"Journey time will be longer and stops may change for some trains," Sydney Trains said on X, formerly Twitter.

The train that needed urgent repairs has since been moved on, and trips on the North Shore line have restarted.

However, commuters are still urged to allow extra travel time.

Flow-on delays are expected to continue.
