Sydney teen dies after being hit by car

A teenage girl has died in hospital after being hit by a car in Sydney's west.

Police say the 17-year-old was struck by the vehicle and trapped beneath it on Friday morning in Berala, on Tilba Street near the intersection of Woodburn Road.

The girl, a Chinese national, suffered serious head injuries and was treated by paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital.

The road was closed while emergency services carried out inquiries at the scene.

The 68-year-old male driver was taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing and is assisting police with their inquiries.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, and who hasn't spoken to police, to come forward.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
