Sydney's CBD is yet again shrouded in thick smoke, with environmental authorities warning the poor air quality is set to stick around.

This morning, as thousands of commuters and pedestrians made their way to work, the city looked like something out of this world – with Sydneysiders barely able to see a metre in front of them.

Currently, ferry services have ceased on Sydney Harbour due to the dangerous conditions.

Iconic locations like the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Opera House and Sydney Tower Eye are barely visible as pollution from bushfires continues to clog the air.

Air quality in parts of NSW and Canberra are worse than Bangkok today, with levels eight times more than what is deemed 'hazardous.'

The NSW Air Quality Index classes almost all of NSW as having 'hazardous' levels today.
