A quick-thinking service station attendant managed to fend off a knife-wielding robber in Sydney.

While counting the night’s takings, the attendant noticed a man running at him with a knife and slammed the till shut in time.

Wearing a grey baseball cap and jumper, the intruder demands cash while wildly waving the weapon through the security wire.

However, the attendant refused to hand it over and protected himself with a milk crate.

Customers continued filling their cars at the pumps outside, oblivious to the drama inside.

The would-be thief soon fled empty-handed, but police hope CCTV will help them catch the crook.

The attendant took a well-earned day of rest today.
