Sydney set for scorcher with warm weekend ahead

Summer is coming early for Sydney with a warm stretch ahead for the weekend, and temperatures set to reach 29 degrees on Saturday.

The city is currently having its driest start to spring on record, Weatherzone meteorologist Ben Domensino said.

This month has recorded a “paltry” 0.2mm of rain, the lowest amount recorded in Sydney during the first 19 days of September since recording started in 1958.

The city will reach 27 degrees on Friday before rising on Saturday, and finishing with a balmy 28 degrees on Sunday.

The start of the next working week will also see 24 degrees in the city.

Meanwhile, Penrith and Richmond in the city’s west will see the mercury rise to 30 degrees tomorrow, 31 degrees on Friday and 33 degrees on Saturday.

The conditions will remain dry, however, for the rest of the week, Mr Domensino said.

Dry air will allow heat to escape exposed skin, making it feel cooler than it actually is, he added.

The Rural Fire Service is on high alert for bushfires this season, with a multi-agency briefing conducted today in Tumut as fire agencies, land managers and emergency services prepare themselves.

Sydney experienced serious grassfires in the last few weeks, with more dry conditions ahead bringing potentially perilous conditions.
