Sydney pharmacist allegedly spiked colleague's drink at work

A Sydney pharmacist has been caught on CCTV putting a drug in his female co-worker's drink during a shift, police say.

The 26-year-old pharmacy assistant had noticed her drink had tasted bitter several times while working, and fell ill at work this week.

She went to Maroubra Police Station on Wednesday and told police she suspected she had been drugged, the ABC reports.

Detectives then discovered CCTV footage allegedly showing her colleague putting the antihistamine phenergan in her drink.

The 33-year-old pharmacist was arrested at this home about 11am on Thursday and charged with using poison to injure or cause distress or pain, and tampering with evidence.

The man had offered the younger woman a job at the pharmacy after they met at a local church three years ago.

Though they had never been a couple police said the pharmacist was "infatuated" with his younger colleague.

He will appear in Waverly Local Court on May 24.
