Two men arrested for 'threatening Sydney tradesmen' with fake sniper rifle

Two men have been charged after allegedly threatening tradesmen with a replica sniper rifle in Sydney's Inner West today.

Officers from Inner West Police Area Command were called to Garners Avenue, Marrickville just before 11.30am today following reports of a man armed with a weapon.

Police allege the man set-up a replica .50 calibre Barrett sniper rifle in the front yard and aimed it at the tradesmen outside a building site. He allegedly threatened them over the level of noise.

One of the tradesmen approached the man and removed the firearm from him until police arrived.

Officers arrested two men at the scene and took them to Newtown Police Station.

The replica weapon was seized for examination.

A 27-year-old man was charged with using an unauthorised prohibited firearm, while a 26-year-old man was charged with possession of an unauthorised prohibited firearm.

The pair were refused bail. They are scheduled to appear before Burwood Local Court tomorrow.
