Ground collapses near Sydney construction workers in second sinkhole incident
A sinkhole has opened near a major construction site in Sydney's south just days after another sinkhole rocked the same street.
Construction workers excavating 12 metres underground for the M6 tunnel project at Rockdale were forced to evacuate yesterday after the ground began to collapse.
The incident took place just 150 metres from a sinkhole that opened on the other side of the street on March 1.

The sinkhole occurred at the face of the south-bound tunnel on the airport side of West Botany Street.
The workers were 12 metres underground and undertaking excavation work when it began to cave in.
They were immediately evacuated.
Transport for NSW said no one was injured.
"No injuries occurred and a small work crew who were in the tunnel at the time, were evacuated as part of standard safety procedures," a statement from the department said.
"SafeWork NSW was immediately notified and an exclusion zone has been established around a 20-square metre area."

The site is about 150m away and on the opposite side of where a two-storey commercial building suffered a partial structural collapse on March 1.
The area impacted is not accessible to the public and was away from residential and commercial buildings.
Further tunneling work has stopped while engineers and other experts assess the area.
