A Sydney factory blaze continues to burn almost ten hours after breaking out.

Emergency services were called at 2.15am by a member of the public after the fire broke out at the 24-unit industrial site in William Street.

There are 24 separate business units and 10 of them have been destroyed or severely damaged.

A mechanic with luxury cars, a tiler, a printing company and the headquarters for fashion chain General Pants are housed in the site.

At the height of the blaze 100 firefighters from across the city were involved.

Fire crews are expected to be at the factory site for much of today as they bring the blaze under control. Nine

One owner said: "It's pretty daunting thing seeing at three in the morning when you see your business on fire. But we are still in business and we will keep going forward."

Another said: "I've been here since about 4am so the fire was up and running back then. It was pretty scary. I've got cold shivers."

A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman said: "It was a difficult fire to fight, based on the complexity of the units in there, we had to gain access to all the units to stop it penetrating other units."

One lane of Botany Road has now reopened, but motorists have been warned to expect delays.
