'He didn't mean to kill her': Jessica Brown's mother defends accused in court
A young man accused of killing his life-long friend in a car crash in Sydney's north-west on Friday is spending his second night behind bars after being refused bail.
Jason Holder, 24, was supported by the victim's mother today as he told the court "it was a terrible accident".
The three-car crash on River Road in Ermington on Friday night claimed the life of 25-year-old Jessica Brown, who was a passenger in Holder's car at the time.

Today in court, Jessica's mother attempted to assist in her alleged killers bail application, shouting to the judge: "They have been friends for years, he did not mean to kill her".
The prosecutor argued the 24-year-old was speeding, ran a red light and had consumed ten alcoholic drinks in the space of five hours before getting behind the wheel.
This was a claim Holder's lawyer quickly disputed, saying official results from his blood alcohol tests had not yet been returned.

The court also heard Holder had previous convictions for low range drink driving and driving without a licence.
During his brief video appearance from prison, the 24-year-old sobbed, saying "it was a massive accident".
He will return to court next week.
