Sydney man's home destroyed by tornado hours after he sells it

Sydney father Frank Partlic was still celebrating the sale of his Kurnell home for a record price when a devastating tornado almost destroyed the property entirely.

Mr Partlic auctioned the home for $1.15 million on Tuesday, after renovating the four-bedroom property over a six-month period, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.

When the storm hit yesterday it only took seconds to undo all his of work.

"The onus is on me because the contracts don't exchange for another six weeks ... so now I have to check my insurance and make sure that is up to date," he told the Herald.

"Where do we get the money from? I have used up all my holidays to fix up the house to sell it."

In Kurnell, powerlines and trees were brought down and homes and businesses sustained extensive damage after the tornado rolled in from the coast.

The State Emergency Service and firefighters were called out to numerous jobs. In one case, firefighters rushed to an industrial zone to discover 30 units had sustained major roof damage.

Crews have now begun the clean-up operation but there were tense scenes earlier between angry Kurnell residents being kept back from their storm-damaged homes by roadblocks.

Across the state the State Emergency Service were called to more than 200 requests for help, mainly for roof damage, fallen trees and downed powerlines.
