Sydney man says he was bashed for wearing a dress and makeup

A man who was brutally beaten leaving a party in Sydney’s inner-west over the weekend says he was targeted because he was wearing a dress and makeup.

Isaac Keatinge shared a photo of his injuries on his Facebook page and urged people to always be safe, even in the alternative suburb Newtown, where he was attacked.

The 25-year-old was walking towards King Street early Sunday morning when three men assaulted him.

“I was confronted by some straight men who didn’t appreciate the gorgeous gown or make up I was wearing,” he wrote.

“After cruel words, things escalated physically. I was pushed and punched rather severely. At some point I stumbled back towards the party and some people outside saw me when I rounded the corner”.

He was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for treatment and received 15 stitches for a cut on his head.

Police said they were aware of the attack and believe it was “bias-related”.

“This report is extremely concerning and absolutely unacceptable,” Superintendent Simon Hardman said in a statement.
