A 73-year-old man has been charged with murder after his wife was found dead in a garage at a western Sydney property.

Police officers arrived at the home of Erlinda and Engracio Songcuan in Woodcroft, near Blacktown in Sydney's west yesterday afternoon, after a family member called and raised concerns for the woman's welfare.

A crime scene was established, which was examined by specialist forensic officers, NSW police said.

A police chopper was used to search for the husband, before his car was spotted at Blacktown Railway Station.

He was arrested at Richmond Railway Station at about 3.30pm and taken to Windsor Police Station where he was charged with murder.

He is behind bars tonight.

One neighbour said Erlinda was an "exceptionally nice" person and "the best human being".
