Sydney man charged after allegedly hitting another man with crowbar

An 18-year-old man has been charged with assault after allegedly striking a 53-year-old man with a crowbar at Camperdown on Friday morning.

Police allege the 53-year-old man was crossing a footbridge above Parramatta Road around 11pm with his wife when they began arguing.

It is claimed the 18-year-old then intervened, accompanying the woman across the bridge, and was threatened by the 53-year-old.

It was during this altercation the 18-year-old allegedly struck the man with a crowbar.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the 53-year-old taken to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

The 18-year-old was arrested and has since been charged with assault inflicting grievous bodily harm.

He was released on bail and is expected to appear in the Downing Centre Local Court on October 21.
