A Sydney finance chief arrested in Los Angeles after a three-year manhunt allegedly stole millions to fund his gambling habit.
Jason Boatwright, 38, was detained last week and escorted back to Sydney by officers after a joint FBI, US Secret Service and NSW Police operation, Fairfax Media reports.
He is accused of swindling millions from his former employers, online payment service epay.
He allegedly began by fraudulently depositing cheques worth nearly $150,000 in February 2011.
Police allege the epay Australia employee then electronically transferred $7,120,769 to his personal bank account in five instalments between May and October that same year.
He reportedly lost more than $5m betting online with agency Centrebet in just six months.
Boatwright is also wanted in the United Kingdom for allegedly defrauding another employer, energy drink and entertainment giant Red Bull.
Charged with nine counts of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception, he was refused bail yesterday and will next appear in court in January.
