A Sydney family has netted a massive payday, after turning a million dollar profit on their humble suburban Sydney home of just two years.

The Crecca family purchased their unrenovated three-bedroom house on Cressy Road in North Ryde, 13km northwest of central Sydney, in 2013 for $880,000.

Last month, the house was sold - sight unseen - for $2 million.

"It's luck, timing - something that we will never experience ever, ever again," Danny Crecca told A Current Affair.

Speaking about the rising value of property in Sydney's northwest, McGrath Ryde agent Stefon Bertram puts it all down to demand.

"We don't have enough houses and we've got too many buyers," Mr Bertram told A Current Affair.

Two years ago, the family had downsized from a fully-renovated house into the weatherboard cottage, located on a heavily congested road.

Now, they have farewelled their mortgage - upgrading to a two-storey home with a pool in Beaumont Hills, 40km west of central Sydney.

"New suburb, a new home, looking at new schools, plenty of room for the kids and a lot less debt," Mr Crecca said.

"Kind of a dream come true, really," Rosetta Crecca said.
