An eight-year-old boy is in hospital suffering possible spinal injuries after being hit by a car on Sydney's Lower North Shore this morning.

Paramedics were called to Blaxland Street in Hunters Hill after the young boy was struck by a Suzuki Jimny.

A rapid response helicopter was flown to the scene to assist the boy, who suffered injuries to his head, face, arms and legs.

He was treated at the scene before being rushed to the Children's Hospital at Westmead.

He also suffered concussion from the impact and remains in a stable condition.

The Suzuki driver, a 20-year-old woman, was uninjured.

She was breath-tested at the scene and returned a negative result.

Police have established a crime scene and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is underway.
