Police are outraged after a man was allegedly caught behind the wheel in Sydney’s west more than eight times the legal alcohol limit.

Officers were called to Wakeley last night after 56-year-old Van Tien Ngyuen was seen allegedly swerving his car along the road yesterday afternoon.

Mr Ngyuen was pulled over where it is alleged he gave a roadside breath test of .415 and was driving with a licence disqualified since 2001.

A short time later, another alleged drunk driver crashed his Toyota Rav 4 into a power pole on a quiet Werrington street before coming to rest in the front yard of a home.

“I heard a loud bang, I come outside and saw this bloke trying to get his car off the lady across the road’s house,” witness Mark Easthope said.

Yesterday, police launched Operation Saturation – a high visibility crackdown on drink and drug drivers on the back of the June long weekend.

Already more than 150 people have died on NSW roads this year and police say behaviour like last night will certainly see even more tragedy.
