Sydney driver charged under Skye's Law

A man will face court after allegedly robbing a teenage boy and sparking a police pursuit through Sydney's southwest.

The pursuit started in Bradbury at about 9.20pm on Monday and the 31-year-old driver led police at high speed through Arids and St Helens Park, police say.

The chase ended when the driver mounted his car on grass median strip, spun around and collided with a police vehicle.

The incident started when the man allegedly punched a 14-year-old boy and snatched his mobile phone while he was waiting at a taxi rank with his girlfriend in Campbelltown, police say.

The man was arrested and charged with robbery, leading police on a pursuit under Skye's Law and other traffic matters.

He was refused bail and will appear in Campbelltown Local Court on Tuesday.

Named for a toddler killed in 2009, Skye's Law provides penalties for those who deliberately start high-speed police chases in an attempt to avoid arrest.
