Sydney commuters stranded in train network chaos

Two technical failures caused chaos on Sydney's rail network this morning, and the operator warned more delays could be expected as people try to get home from work later.

Sydney Trains said it was working to fix two issues that left some passengers stranded this morning, and advised customers to allow extra travel time.

At 6.10am, there was a track failure between Wynyard and Town Hall stations causing delays on the T1 North Shore and Western and T9 Northern lines.

In a separate incident, a mechanical issue with a train at Central Station caused delays for the T4 Eastern Suburbs and South Coast lines.

That led to flow-on delays to the T2 Inner West and Leppington, T3 Bankstown and T8 Airport and South Lines.

"While scheduled services are experiencing ongoing delays, we are providing a frequent service for customers on all lines," Sydney Trains said in a statement.
