Sydney cleaner jailed over brutal murder of elderly client in 2019
A Sydney cleaner has been sentenced to 15 years in prison over the murder of her 92-year-old client.
Hanny Papanicolaou brutally bashed Marjorie Welsh in her Ashfield home in 2019.
The court heard Papanicolaou gambled away her money on the pokies at the Canterbury RSL on January 2 2019, before driving to the grandmother's house with the intent to steal from her and carrying out the "utterly ferocious attack".

Papanicolaou hit the grandmother with her own crockery and walking stick before repeatedly stabbing her.
Welsh died from her injuries six weeks after she was attacked in her kitchen.
In handing down his sentence, Justice Wright told the court the "murder was unplanned and impulsive".
"It was the offender's intention to kill," Wright said.
Papanicolaou stared at her feet and wept as the remarks were read.
The 39-year-old will spend a minimum 15 years behind bars.

"I'm personally very pleased with the result," the victim's daughter, Angela Macleod, said.
In an affidavit to the court, Papanicolaou expressed remorse.
"I am sorry for everything. Marjorie Welsh was a beautiful lady. She was always very nice to me," the affidavit read.
"I wish I could go back to that day and change what happened. I pray to God for forgiveness five times a day."
Papanicolaou will be eligible for parole in 2034.
