A van crash into a pole has brought down power lines in Sydney’s inner west.

Police were called to reports of a high-speed crash on Liverpool Road near Hill Street in Strathfield just after 3am today.

Investigations suggest the van’s 27-year-old driver was approaching the corner when he lost control of his van and ploughed into the power pole.

The van eventually came to rest on its side.

The impact of the crash caused live power lines to fall across the main road.

The driver was treated for leg injuries before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

The crash caused some traffic delays, with southbound lanes of Liverpool Road expected to remain shut for up to six hours as police clean up the site.

Drivers have been urged to avoid the area.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
