Sydney teen charged over alleged CBD busker theft

A teenager has been charged with multiple offences after allegedly stealing money from a busker performing in Sydney’s CBD.

Martin Campos was performing in Pitt Street Mall about 5.45pm yesterday when a man allegedly ran towards him and stole cash from an open guitar case.

A live-streamed video of the incident that was posted online shows the busker sitting on a stool and playing a guitar before jolting forward to run after the alleged offender.

Authorities claim the busker was able to restrain the man until police attended the scene.

In the vision, the 38-year-old is also heard saying, ‘”look at this… It’s not the first time he’s stolen (from) me.”

An 18-year-old man who was restrained at the scene has since been charged over the alleged offence. Facebook - Martin Campos

Isaac Manias, 18, was arrested at the scene and taken to Day Street Police Station, where he was charged with larceny and being in custody of suspected stolen goods.

The teenager, from Hillsdale, was granted bail after spending a night behind bars.
